Hyd-based Gayam Motor Works to supply electric vehicles to ChaiGuru for delivery

Hyderabad-based electric vehicle startup Gayam Motor Works has partnered with Hyderabad-based herbal tea startup ChaiGuru to deliver the latter’s products using GMW’s electric vehicles.

GMW, which counts Uber, BigBasket, Flipkart, Grofers, Gati, Chittoor Police, GVMC, Govt of AP and Telangana and Central American Police among its customers, has designed e-autos from the ground up for food truck applications.

ChaiGuru will now use these vehicles as mobile outlets across different locations in the city to display and dispense their beverages. GMW’s electric bikes will also be used to meet ChaiGuru’s online and offline orders.

Founded by Rahul Gayam  with his brother Raja Gayam in 2012, GMW has developed the world’s first electric autorickshaw with Li-Ion battery and a proprietary battery technology and management system.

As against diesel rickshaws which have a running cost of Rs 3.5/km, the Smart Auto has a running cost of only Rs 0.50/km.

GMW, which was incubated in T-Hub, also developed electric bikes, which come with different levels of pedal assistance to give riders a push. When you start pedalling, the motor kicks in and supplies about 80% of the energy. And if you don’t want to pedal, there is also a throttle next to the right handle, which can take you from 0-25 kmph in five seconds.

The company has exported its e-autos and e-bikes to 15 countries, including the US and markets in Africa, Asia, Central America, and Europe, apart from selling them in India. Rahul also recently featured in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2018 list.

ChaiGuru is also a Hyderabad-based startup that makes herbal teas that are sourced and made with a perfect blend of high-quality ingredients that are handpicked and refined. It makes products that are free from preservatives, added flavours and come in bleach free bags. Its product range includes Araku Chai, Kuti - The coffee Leaf tea, EM Tea – early morning tea and Rosella tea. The production is located at the coffee plantations of the Lambasingi, Araku Valley. It also plans to launch products in Vijayawada, Vizag and Bengaluru.
